The story also promotes tolerance of new people or cultures that are considered “different” or “other”; which is particularly relevant in our increasingly diverse and global society.
And finally, there is an emphasis on finding friends who embrace and support you - flaws and all.
Though these are serious themes, portraying them through the lens of a robot makes it both accessible and light-hearted.
Moxie is optimistic, kind, but also prone to self-doubt. Fig, her new friend, has a tough-as-nails exterior but a welcoming demeanor and doesn’t follow the crowd. I think many children will see themselves in these characters.
